In 1917 the Pennsylvania RR accumulated 48.5 billion ton miles-equal to moving a ton of freight on 260 round trips to the sun.

This picture above was posed the day following No. 460's 1927 exploit in carrying newsreel films of Charles Lindbergh's triumphal reception in Washington, DC to New York City theaters faster than a competing plane. The locomotive is preserved in the Museum's Rolling Stock Hall.
