What is a Whistle Stop?
A whistle stop is a small railway station between the main stations or a station where the train stops only on a signal, generally found on rural branch lines where passenger traffic was light. They were sometimes marked by a three-sided shed equipped with a flag, which a passenger would wave at an approaching train as a signal to stop. Thus the term "flag stop" was sometimes also used. Some schedules marked stations as stops only if such a notice was seen by the engineer, or a passenger advised the conductor of the intended detraining there; the conductor would then signal the engineer as the train approached the station. Seen here is the Rosenthal station on the Reading Railroad's New Hope Branch, in 1942.
We adopted the term to connote the old-time friendly service that we are dedicated to providing our customers.
