Special interpretive tours of some of the Railroad Museum's collection of Reading Company equipment will be held.
The Railroad Museum's popular and challenging Stewart Junction railway education center will offer hands-on activities for railroaders of all ages during Reading Railroad Days.
Another highlight of Reading Railroad Days is the presence of two rare, former Reading Company FP7 diesel locomotives currently on loan to the Railroad Museum. Once part of a fleet of eight FP7 passenger train diesel locomotives built by the General Motors Electro-Motive Division, Nos. 902 and 903 were among the Reading Railroad’s only pure passenger diesels.
Geared for a top speed of 89 mph, the FP7s were the fastest diesel locomotives on the railroad and the only diesels assigned to the Reading’s premier passenger train, the Crusader. Only these two, and one other, FP7s survive. They were rescued from the scrap heap by railroad historical societies, restored to operating condition and modernized in order to operate on excursion trains.
Also, an impressive array of railroading books, videos, collectibles and gifts will be available in the Whistle Stop Shop museum store. Reading Railroad Days activities are included in the regular Railroad Museum admission price.
