STEAM On The Rails & Summer Camps Set

The Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania is offering a special school group student program in May and four summer camps this year.  Registration for all five youth programs is now available on Eventbrite and is on a first-come basis.

STEAM On The Rails. Thursday, May 19, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  For school group students in grades K through 6. This educational experience investigates the importance of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) in railroading and our daily lives.  Activities take place at station stops throughout the Museum, including interactive behind-the-scenes tours, a live steam demonstration, hands-on art activities, and engaging presentations about historic railroading jobs.  The cost is $7.00 for students, $9.00 for adult chaperones, and by donation for educators.  Register here.

Virtual Summer Camp “Behind The Scenes Of Railroading.”  Tuesday, June 28 to Thursday, June 30, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. ET.   For ages 9 to 12.  Campers develop new skills, make friends and have fun when they explore the Museum’s historic railroad equipment, learn about the Museum’s collections treasures, spend time with a model train expert from Lionel, create a guided craft project, and collaborate with other campers to solve challenges.  The cost is $75.00 for all three sessions.  Attendees must have internet access and Zoom.  Register here.

Barons & Builders Day Camp. Tuesday, July 12 to Friday, July 15, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.  For ages 9 and 10.  Campers develop new skills, make friends and have fun when they explore the Museum’s historic railroad equipment on special guided tours, learn about the Museum’s collections treasures, take a ride on the Strasburg Rail Road and enjoy a behind-the-scenes visit, receive a Lionel model boxcar for a guided craft project, spend time with a special guest talking about careers in railroading, collaborate with other campers to solve challenges and receive a camp t-shirt.  The cost is $200.00 for regular admission and $175.00 for current members of the Friends of the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania.  Register here.

Virtual Summer Day Camp “A Moveable Feast.”  Tuesday, August 2 to Thursday, August 4, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. ET.  For ages 9 to 12.  Campers develop new skills, make friends and have fun when they explore the Museum’s historic railroad equipment used in transporting food from the farm to the table and in railroad dining, view the railroad dining artifacts in the Museum’s collection, receive ingredients for a special at-home baking project with a ginger muffins recipe used on Pennsylvania Railroad dining cars and collaborate with other campers to solve challenges.  The cost is $75.00 for all three sessions.  Attendees must have internet access and Zoom.  Register here.

Sensory Hours program for children and community members with special sensory needs is now offered.   On most alternate Tuesdays from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., the Museum reduces lighting and sounds and maintains a low attendance, with quiet spaces for breaks.  A few of the historic trains will be open, with Museum staff present to answer questions. The cost is $7.00 per person for ages 3 and up and is free of charge for ages 2 and under, personal assistant aides, and current members of the Friends of the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania.  Check Eventbrite for scheduled program dates and registration.
